Capsule Geology

The CM occurrence is located northwest of Macdonald Lake and approximately 3 kilometres north of the north shore of Francois Lake.

The geology of the region consists of: 1) a Mississippian to Triassic Cache Creek Group oceanic volcanic and sedimentary assemblage 2) the Upper Triassic dominantly mafic volcanic Takla Group 3) the Lower to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group mafic to felsic volcanic and sedimentary rocks 4) the Upper Cretaceous to Lower Tertiary Ootsa Lake Group sedimentary and volcanic rocks and 5) the Oligocene and Miocene Endako Group. The region has been intruded by the Lower Jurassic quartz monzonite to granodiorite Topley Intrusive Suite, Upper Jurassic plutons of the Francois Lake Suite and plugs and stocks related to Upper Cretaceous and Tertiary volcanism.

The CM showing is underlain by part of the Endako quartz monzonite phase of the Francois Lake batholith. This is one of five phases recognized on the basis of texture and composition. Molybdenite and pyrite occur mainly as disseminations and along fractures in the quartz monzonite. Potassium feldspar alteration and kaolinitization are common. A drill intersection of about 37 metres reported 0.24 per cent MoS2 (Property File – 1963 drill plans, sections and logs).

Work History

Immediately to the south of the CM showing lie the Fort claims. These claims cover the area between McDonald Lake and south to Francois Lake. A soil geochemical survey was conducted on the property by Mercury Explorations Limited by the late 1960s. This program revealed a 150 metre area, which returned values of 20 to 67 parts per million Mo. A localized anomalous resistivity high coincided with the anomalous soil samples. The anomalous area is underlain by Endako quartz monzonite and is adjacent to a major fault zone, which has been intruded locally by andesite porphyry, rhyolite, and basalt dikes. Sparse molybdenite mineralization and kaolinite alteration were intersected in drillcore near MacDonald and Casey Lakes, along the fault to the north (Property File Cyprus Anvil Dawson, K.M., 1969). Also on the property an induced polarization anomaly, trending north-northwest, was found to coincide with a resistivity low for over 3 kilometres. Bedrock depth on the property was estimated at 15 to 22.5 metres.

In 1963 and 1965, Canex Aerial Exploration Ltd. and Endako Mines Ltd. completed programs of soil sampling and geological mapping on the area immediately southwest of the occurrence as the Bingo and Rac claims.

In 1970, Endako Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling and a 2.3 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area immediately southeast of the occurrence as the Ben claims.

In 1971, Endako Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling on the area immediately northeast of the occurrence as the Pat 97 group of claims.

In 1981, Placer Development Ltd. completed a single diamond drill hole (D9), totalling 745.8 metres, on the Dolly claims. Pyrite and trace molybdenite were identified in quartz veins yielding up to 0.013 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 9383). The drillhole was located approximately 1 kilometre southwest of Macdonald Lake.

In 2018, Thompson Creek Metals Co. Inc. completed a 17.5 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on several areas of the Endako property including areas east and west of the CM occurrence.
